Children start to write long before they start reading. By 'writing' we do not mean long and articulate sentences! Writing incorporates preparation for writing - holding a crayon, scribbling, using stamps, drawing, etc.
Ways to Support Writing
Prepare a well-stocked writing centre
Give positive feedback whenever children make an attempt at writing. It's a process, mistakes will be made.
Display their writing within the classroom, at the appropriate height, so they can see their work
As an educator and adult in the environment, model writing; be intentional in terms of showing the value and importance of writing
Display various forms of print. Labelling is important, even though the children may not be reading yet
