Preschoolers - Task for the week!

Hello Everyone,

We have a task for your preschooler this week. Nothing too complex, don't worry. Something to keep little hands and minds busy!

The challenge this week is pretty simple:

‘Loading and Unloading the Washing Machine”

What?:  Yes, children can help you with chores!

Age:      From 2 and a half years How:    Adult supervision at all times. Remind your child that this will ONLY be done when you are present. To BE SAFE, switch the main connection OFF when you are not at home to supervise.

(Please note that the words within the speech marks, below, are additional/new vocabulary linked to the task).

  1. Start very simply with a small load of clothes (your son/daughter’s clothes)

  2. Separate the clothes into 2 bundles -‘white’ and ‘non whites’/‘coloured’.

  3. Ask your child to place the 1st bundle of clothes in the ‘drum’ of the machine; one piece at a time

  4. Ask him/her to close the ‘door’ of the washing machine

  5. Ask him/her to watch as you place the ‘detergent’/‘washing powder’ in the machine

  6. Ask him/her to watch as you set the ‘dial’ to the chosen wash cycle

  7. Ask him/her to press the ‘start’ button

  8. Children love to watch as the machine goes ‘round and round’

  9. Talk about the ‘time’ it will take before the cycle finishes e.g. 30 minutes, 1 hour

  10. Once the cycle has finished, ask your young one to help unload the clothes into a ‘basket’. One piece at a time.

  11. He/she can watch (or help) as you hang the clothes up to dry; or place them in the dryer

Happy house-working:). Stay safe!
